Sometimes, all you can do is begin again.
It had been a few weeks since my last session of blackberry clearing. They were lovely weeks. My daughter was home from college for a quick visit. We got to share Christmas and New Year’s with her. She’s already back at school. Her Winter Quarter courses start tomorrow.
But I woke up this morning with a fear that I was on the verge of losing my Blackberry Project momentum , like it was something that I used to do, not something that was part of my day-to-day anymore. I’m not sure how that happened. Yes, it was the holidays. Also, there were a few rainy days in there. But mostly, I think I just got out of the habit. I conveniently forgot that my intention was to do a few 20 minute clearing sessions a week and to film and share at least one of them. There was baking to do and gifts to wrap, a tree to decorate. No time for the berries.
I forced myself to go outside today. I gathered up my gloves and big clippers and tried to remember where I had worked last. But once I was there, a few yards up from the creek, it all came back to me. It was easy to be outside. It was work I enjoyed.
And just a little note of encouragement: if there’s something you used to do that nourished you, but that you’ve gotten away from, or haven’t made time for, or have somehow forgotten, it’s never too late to begin again. Even if you just have 20 minutes. It’s not a lot of time, but it’s enough to make a start. A start may be all you need.
Here’s the little video I made today. Thanks for watching. Happy New Year, friends. Grace and peace to you
